Schedule some "ME TIME"

I don’t know about you, but the holidays always seem to be my most stressful time of year for me. First you have to schedule all of your holiday parties and make sure that you can make it to Grandma’s for Christmas morning, your brother’s house to trade presents the weekend before, your work party the first weekend of December and don’t forget all of the New Years Eve Parties. Once you have it all scheduled you have to buy gifts for everyone (I think this is the most stressful part, how do you buy meaningful/useful gifts for everyone on your list without spending ALL of your money?) And after all that, you still have to make it to the parties and interact with all those people!

Now, I’m an incredibly social person, so I sometimes forget to schedule time for myself during the rest of the year, but I never make that mistake around the holidays. I know that running a small business and trying to make it to all of my family gatherings and all of my friends’ holiday parties is going to be incredibly stressful, so if you look at my calendar you will see “ME TIME” scheduled at least once a week and in certain circumstances almost every day.

I schedule things like":

  • Time at the dog park with Delta

    • This may not seem like “me time” but I love playing with my pup and a whole hour dedicated to that is a great way to unwind

  • Work-out time

    • You may not know it but physical activity is a excellent stress relieving activity in my case I have my runs scheduled. This is also an excellent way to get out of the house if you are traveling.

  • Read a book

    • Escape the real world by jumping into one of your favorite books.

  • Breathe

    • Even if you feel like you don’t have enough time to set aside for yourself, (I’m sure you do if you try) take a moment in a hallway or step outside and take a breath.

If nothing else, remember that Life will go back to normal after the holidays, and really enjoy the time you have with the people you are spending it with!
