5 ways to hate winter less

Happy first day of snow!!  I woke up this morning to a beautiful dusting of snow on the ground, which as many of you know makes me about the happiest person on the planet.  As I sat there this morning drinking my coffee and looking out the window I found myself thinking about all of the people out there who seem to HATE winter and I decided to write about all the ways to make winter more bearable so here is my list.

  1. Hot beverages: sit down in the morning or the evening next to a window with your favorite coffee, tea or cider and watch the snow fall.  Just enjoy how beautiful it is and drink in the moment.

  2. A warm blanket: keep a nice snugly warm blanket on your favorite couch or chair so that you have something to bundle up in.  I’ll agree with everyone that it is no fun being cold, so snuggle in and watch a good movie or read your favorite book.

  3. Buy the right clothes:  Winter is miserable if you don’t dress for the weather.  So go to the store and buy yourself a few pairs of warm socks (I’m partial to woolrich https://www.woolrich.com/american-soul because they are made in the USA), make sure that you have a winter jacket, I always keep a hat or headband and a pair of gloves in my purse during this time of year so that I can stay warm.  Scarves are another great accessory that is also practical, they look super cute and they keep you nice and warm.

  4. Get outside:  one huge mistake that I notice people make in the winter is that they stay inside all winter because they don’t want to be cold, but winter is way more enjoyable if you get out and play in the snow and there are so many things you can do.  Take your dog for a walk, go for a run, try skiing or snowboarding, whatever it is that you enjoy, get outside and do it.

  5. Stop telling everyone how much you hate winter:  the more you tell people how much you hate it the worse it will become, not just for you but for everyone around you as well.  Have you heard the phrase “fake it until you make it”? That can apply here too. Tell yourself that you love winter, that you love the snow, and get excited when the snow starts to fall, it will make everyone’s day better.
